Posted

We're not talking about color schemes either! We see "going green" on television, in schools, and in the stores. Feel the need to help Mother Earth? Why not apply some simple strategies to help make your baby shower a "green" baby shower! Being green doesn't have to be complicated or expensive. There are simple steps you can take to "green-up" baby shower.

  • The easiest step is to recycle any cans, bottles or plastics served at your baby shower.
  • Ask guests to purchase organic cotton clothing or layette for baby. Most baby stores carry these items.
  • If you intend to have a diaper raffle or diaper wishing well, request that guests purchase "chlorine-free" diapers.
  • Serve organic or all natural food. Sometimes this option can be expensive; however, if you stick with in-season fruits and vegetables you can find bargains. Check local farmer's markets for deals as well. More and more stores are carrying organic or all natural products. Look for products that are grown without pesticides or meats that are not fed hormones or antibiotics. However... Everything that is served at your baby shower doesn't have to be organic or all natural. Most important is that the items served will be enjoyed by all, especially mom-to-be.
  • Recycle any decorations or games used at the baby shower. You can pass them on for someone else to use or simply place paper or plastic decorations in your recycling container for its weekly pick-up.

There are different ways to have a "green" baby shower. Be creative and remember the Three R's... Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
